FAQ — Secure Sharing
Is it safe to use Secure Sharing?
Yes. Your message is encrypted with AES-256-CBC before being stored. The link is protected with an HMAC signature that prevents guessing and tampering. The message is permanently deleted from the database after the first viewing.
How long is my message stored?
You choose the validity period when creating: 1 hour, 24 hours, or 7 days. If no one opens the link within that time, the message is automatically deleted. If someone opens the link, the message is deleted immediately after viewing.
Can someone else read my message?
Only someone with the exact link can read the message. The link contains a unique signature that cannot be guessed. You can also add PIN protection for additional security.
Does the recipient need an account?
No. The recipient just needs to click the link. No registration, no account, no apps. Everything works directly in the browser.
What happens if I lose the link?
Unfortunately, we cannot recreate the link. The message is encrypted and we have no connection between you and the message. Create a new secret if you need to share the information again.
Can I see if the recipient has read the message?
No, we do not log who reads messages. The only way to know if the message has been read is to try opening the link — if it is no longer available, it has been viewed.
What is PIN protection?
You can optionally set a PIN code when creating the message. The recipient must then enter the PIN code before the message is displayed. The PIN is protected against brute force — after 5 incorrect attempts, the message is locked.
