Remove EXIF and metadata
Your photos contain more information than you think. Camera settings, GPS location, date, time and sometimes even your name are stored as metadata. Before sharing images online you should remove this hidden information to protect your privacy.
How to do it
- Upload the images you want to clean by dragging and dropping.
- Go to the Edit tab and check "Remove EXIF metadata".
- Click "Apply" and download the cleaned images without metadata.
All processing happens locally in your browser — your images never leave your computer.
Why remove metadata from images?
Every photo taken with a mobile phone or digital camera may contain the exact GPS location where the image was taken. If you share the image on social media, forums or marketplaces, anyone can potentially see where you were. Even your home can be revealed if you photograph from there. Beyond GPS, camera model, serial number, date, aperture, shutter speed and sometimes unique identifiers are stored. Professional photographers may also have copyright information and contact details embedded via IPTC fields. Social platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter remove some metadata automatically, but not all services do. Email, forums, cloud storage and personal websites often keep all metadata. The tool removes metadata by redrawing the image via the browser's Canvas API. The result is a visually identical image without embedded metadata. Everything happens locally — the image is never sent to any server.
Frequently Asked Questions
What metadata is removed?
All embedded metadata is removed — EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP and ICC profiles. The image is recreated as a clean file via Canvas API.
Does it affect image quality?
The image is redrawn via canvas in the same format. When exporting as JPEG, high quality (0.92 default) is used. The result is practically identical to the original.
Can I see what metadata exists before removing?
Yes, use the Inspect tab first to see all metadata, then the Edit tab to remove it.
