Active and inactive company – what status means
Guide to company status in the Swedish company register and what it is relevant for
The Bolagsverket register distinguishes between active and deregistered companies. This guide explains what status means, what it does not mean and how to filter by status in research.
What status means
Active company
Registered at Bolagsverket without deregistration, bankruptcy or liquidation. The company may have high or low activity in practice: status says nothing about turnover, employees or actual operations.
Inactive company
In this tool's database, a company is marked inactive if Bolagsverket's data indicates deregistration, liquidation or bankruptcy. The exact definition varies by company type. Always consult the Bolagsverket register for details on specific companies.
What status does not say
Status does not say whether the company is well-run, has debts, is active in its industry or is involved in a dispute. These are register records, not a quality assessment.
How to filter by status
In the address cluster ranking and address search, active companies are shown separately from the total. Click an address to see the full company list with status per company. The CSV export includes a status column.
Why inactive companies are still relevant
Inactive companies at an address can indicate high turnover. An address with many short-lived companies that have since been deregistered may be a pattern worth investigating further, but this requires source verification.
Limitations
Status in this tool is based on Bolagsverket bulk data. The update frequency means status may be a few days behind Bolagsverket's real-time register. For critical facts: verify directly at bolagsverket.se.
