How to connect your phone
Three steps, and it takes half a minute. Set the time below and press Remote. Scan the QR code with the phone camera. The remote control opens in the phone browser and is connected right away.
You can also copy the link and send it to the phone. The link is personal to this timer, so only share it with the person who will control it.
What you can do from the phone
You see the same time and status as on the computer, and use the same buttons. It works well when you walk around the room or stand far from the computer.
- Set the length before the start, with quick choices or any number of minutes.
- Start, pause and continue.
- Add or remove a minute while the countdown runs.
- Reset, with a confirmation so you do not do it by mistake.
- Send a short message to the screen, for example 5 minutes left or Questions now, without sound.
- Change the heading and the pause message, and load a saved setup.
- Get a signal on the phone when time is up: vibration, and sound if you want it. It works while the page is open and the screen is on.
Encrypted and no account
Everything sent between the phone and the computer is encrypted in the browser with AES-GCM before it leaves the device. The key lives in the fragment of the link, the part after the #, and is never sent to the server. The server only forwards encrypted packets and cannot read the time, the heading or the messages. It stores no content.
No account and no app are needed. There is nothing to install on the phone and nothing to log in to.
Mirror link for someone who only watches
The remote dialog also has a mirror link. It shows the time and status on another phone, but has no buttons to start, pause or change anything. Good for colleagues who follow the time without being able to disturb it.
Limits to know about
Up to five phones can be connected to the same timer at once. The computer running the timer must be online with the page open, since it is the one counting. If you close the page, the room is kept for about 30 minutes and then disappears. Disconnect all closes the remote link at once and creates a new one, so old phones lose contact.
Frequently asked questions
How do I control a timer from my phone?
Open the timer on the computer and press Remote. Scan the QR code with the phone camera and a remote control opens in the browser. From there you start, pause and adjust the time.
Do I need an app or an account?
No. The remote control is an ordinary web page that opens in the phone browser. Nothing is installed and no login is needed.
Can the server read what I type in the timer?
No. The content is encrypted in the browser before it is sent, and the key lives only in the link fragment, which is never sent to the server. The server sees a room id and encrypted packets.
How many phones can control the same timer?
Up to five at the same time. Anyone with the link can control it, so share it only with the person who should. If someone should only watch, use the mirror link.
What happens if the computer or the phone loses its connection?
The phone shows Disconnected and the buttons are disabled until the connection is back. The computer keeps counting down by itself. If the connection returns within about 30 minutes, remote control continues.
Does remote control work without internet?
No. Both the computer and the phone must be online, since the messages go through a server. Both pages show a clear message if the connection is lost. The timer on the computer itself works without internet and keeps counting.
How do I turn remote control off?
Press Disconnect all in the remote dialog on the computer. The link stops working at once and a new one is created.
