How the pomodoro technique works
The pomodoro technique splits work into short sessions. You work without interruption for 25 minutes, take a five minute break and start again. After four sessions you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
This timer is preset to 25 minutes. Press Start and it counts down. Sound is turned on for this page and plays three tones when the session ends, and you can turn it off under Sound in the settings. The remaining time is also shown in the tab title, so you can follow it while working in another window.
Pick the length of the session and the break
Pick a length here. The link only fills in the time, and the countdown starts when you press Start.
Four sessions in a row without restarting
If you do not want to restart every time, use the interval timer. It switches between work and rest automatically and counts the rounds for you.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a pomodoro?
A session is traditionally 25 minutes, followed by a five minute break. After four sessions you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The lengths are guidelines, and many people use 50 minutes of focus and a 10 minute break.
Will I hear when time is up?
Yes. Sound is turned on for this page, and three short tones are played when time is up. If you turn Sound off in the settings the page only shows the text Time is up and the tab title changes.
Does the timer work in a background tab?
Yes. Time is counted against the clock rather than a number of ticks, so it stays correct even if the browser throttles the tab. The remaining time is shown in the tab title.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The timer runs in the browser, needs no account and can be downloaded for use without internet.
