My Setup

Set your defaults here and take a backup of everything Fabbe has saved for you. All data stays in your browser only, and you do not need an account.

How to use it

  1. Choose number of strings, tuning, favourite tempo and the other defaults. Changes are saved at once and used as defaults in the tools.
  2. Press Export my Fabbe data to save a file, fabbe-backup.json, with everything you have locally.
  3. Pick an earlier file under Import Fabbe data. You see what will be imported before anything changes.
  4. Choose to merge with what you have or to replace everything. Replace needs a confirmation.

What does My Setup save?

My Setup is the page where you set your defaults in Fabbe. The defaults are used as a starting point in the tools and are saved at once when you change them. You need no account.

You can set the following.

  • Number of strings, usual tuning and favorite tempo in BPM.
  • Default instrument: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, classical guitar or bass.
  • Handedness (right-handed or left-handed) and preferred notation: tab, staff or both.
  • Audio input. The names of the inputs appear only after the browser has given access to the microphone.
  • Metronome: beats per bar, accent on the one and volume.

Backup and restore

Export my Fabbe data saves everything you have locally in one file, fabbe-backup.json. The file contains, among other things, practice sessions, personal bests, settings, songs and your own files. Keep it safe.

When you import, you see a preview before anything changes: how many records are new, updated, unchanged or removed. You then choose to merge or replace.

  • Merge keeps what you have and lets the newest change of each record win.
  • Replace removes records that are not in the file. It requires a confirmation and cannot be undone.

Local storage and protection against clearing

Fabbe saves your data in the browser's local storage on this device. The page shows how much space the site uses of what the browser allows.

The browser can clear storage automatically when the device runs low on space. The button Protect against automatic clearing asks the browser to leave your data alone. The browser may decline, and then a regular export is the safest protection.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use Fabbe?

No. My Setup and the other tools save data locally in your browser. An account is not needed to set defaults or take a backup.

How do I move my data to another device?

Export a file on the old device, transfer fabbe-backup.json and choose Import Fabbe data on the new one. Merge if you already have data there, replace if you want to start over.

What is the difference between Merge and Replace?

Merge adds what is missing and keeps the newest version of each record. Replace makes your local data identical to the file and removes everything that is not in it.

What happens to my data if I clear site data?

It disappears, because it exists only in the browser. Export a copy now and then, especially before you clear data or switch browser.
